I stayed after with Mr.Tan to tutor kids who do not know a lot about math, therefore I taught them. Mr.Tan helps the community by staying after out of his own free time to teach kids who are struggling in school. Mainly with math. There is a need for Mr.Tan's services because I personally couldn't have passed geometry my sophomore year without him so I know for a fact he's bettering these kids and helping many graduate like he did with me.
I would come to room 106 after school until about 3:00 or 3:30 to help the younger students or sometimes even seniors with their math. We'd stay and go over whatever math they needed to graduate or whatever one they were stronger in to get them to pass.
This positively affected me, it made me grow patience. It made me learn how to connect with others and also taught me social skills. Above all, it made me realize I love helping others. Whether it benefits me or not its an amazing feeling to have somebody accomplish something great with your help. It makes me feel like I changed the world a little bit.
I do feel like I made a difference because without some of my help a lot of these kids would still be needing a math regent for graduation. Community service has a big affect on our society because it makes people realize its not only about receiving but more importantly its about giving. I would definitely recommend my community service for others to do because it gives you confidence like you can do it when you put your mind to it.

I went to the North side Learning Center to teach little kids. They teach the adults English downstairs and teach their kids everything a school would upstairs. They're open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3-5. There is a need for their services because without this free program parents wouldn't be able to learn English in a quiet zone without their kids distracting them. I would go upstairs to the little kids and help them with homework or help them read. Then when everything was done we'd play games and just bond with them. This had a positive affect on me because it's amazing being able to help these little kids become better people, better at schoolwork and making them socialize with other kids. Them interacting with others makes them more compatible with others. I do feel I made a difference because these kids look up to me to be the best role model I can be. I would recommend community service for others because it makes you feel accomplished. To do for others without always looking for what you're receiving. These kids are amazing and they helped me become a better person also. To help them was an incredible opportunity that I'd do any day because they're fun, well rounded kids. These community service hours have felt nothing like a chore but more of a hobby.

  1. Hello. My name is Miss. Noll and I am a student at SUNY Oswego. It sounds like you learned a lot from this experience and enjoyed your time at the North side Learning Center.
